Annual Appearances
Every year, our veterans get the opportunity to participate in the Utah Wild Horse and Burro Festival and the Extreme Horseman's Challenge. These two events bring great joy and excitement to our veterans, and we love to see them participate. Not only are these events fun, they also allow the veteran a chance to apply what they have been working on with the horses over the past year, and continue to solidify their bonds with the horses.
Utah Wild Horse and Burro Festival
|
Every year the Utah BLM presents the Wild Horse and Burro Festival as a means to show off the many facets of Mustangs and burros. For the past five years, veterans from A Helping Hoof have been involved in the Festival in many different capacities. Individuals work with Mustangs in the program to show them in Showmanship, Trail Class, Lunging, and Freestyle. The Freestyle class is a group presentation using music and choreography related to issues of primary concern to veterans. One year, it was overcoming symptoms of PTSD while another, it was a welcome home for Vietnam Veterans.

Extreme Horseman's Challenge
|
Pegasus Event Center, a full service equestrian facility in Grantsville, holds six Extreme Horseman's Challenges every year from spring to fall. Over the last few years veterans who have started to ride have had the opportunity to compete in the challenge. The event provides an opportunity for the veterans to step out of their comfort zone, build a better relationship with their horse, and challenge themselves. It can also be an opportunity for people to learn new definitions of success. However, Pegasus Event Center has cancelled all Extreme Horseman's Challenges until further notice
