Past Horses

These are the horses that are no longer a part of the team, but are still made an impact on the veterans and participants of A Helping Hoof.

Ghost Pepper

Ghost is a 2018 Mustang gelding from the Range Creek Herd Management Area. He was adopted in 2020 for the Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary TIP Challenge. He competed virtually, and placed 4th overall.

Ghost (now renamed Spice) has been moved to a pasture in West Valley, UT with Wednesday to grow and just be a horse.

Lady

Picture
Lady is a 1994 year old mare paint "that ain't". Basically a sorrel. She's very much her own horse. While she likes to move out, sometimes she also takes care of her rider. She will make anyone work for her attention and respect.

Lady passed away in October 2023 at the young age of 29.

Sullie

Picture
Sullie is a 2018 Mustang from Stewart Creek Herd Management Area. Sullie took part in the 2019 Utah Wild Horse and Burro TIP Challenge placing 3rd overall.

Sullie was sold after the show, where she was then returned to the holding facility a month later. A Helping Hoof picked her up from the holding facility and brought her back home where she has been able to heal and open back up.

Sullie is super friendly and loves to be everyone's best friend. She has become an instant favorite because of her personality and desire for snuggles. She has now found her forever home, and spends the day being loved all day, every day.

Wednesday

Wednesday is a 2017 Mustang mare from the Triple B Herd Management Area. She was adopted in 2020 for the Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary TIP Challenge. She competed virtually, and placed 2nd overall.

Wednesday was moved with Ghost to a pasture in West Valley, UT and is eating fresh grass, playing with other horses, and getting into trouble. She has found her forever home with a wonderful veteran who loves and adores her and her larger than life personality.

Zeus

Zeus is a 2004 Mustang who was gathered from the Warm Springs HMA in Oregon in 2006. He came to us in Spring of 2016 because his owner could no longer care for him. He was in kind of sad shape at the time and was pretty closed up. However, over the summer he put on weight, had a bath or two, and learned that people are not so bad. Zeus is at the low end of the herd but he still knows how to get what he needs. He is being retrained to be ridden and his progress is being helped by Lillan Roquet, a Level 3 Parelli Professional.

In the Fall of 2016, we found out that Zeus has Squamous Cell Carcinoma in his left eye. We didn't know how long he had it but it was treatable. He was scheduled for surgery to remove his third eyelid and, hopefully, the whole tumor. Fortunately, the Equine Opthomologist reduced her rate for the surgery, for which we are very grateful. Zeus was now Cancer free!

In 2019, Zeus moved to a pasture in West Valley, UT to live out the rest of his days being loved by Army veteran and her family. Unfortunately, Zeus had to be put down in August 2020.
